As Buena Vista Home Entertainment continues to prepare it’s largest DVD release to date, more and more information is becoming available. Now at last, it seems that all the details are out.

The most revered of all Disney films, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is alive with fairy tale magic, heart-pounding suspense and rousing adventure. When the wicked Queen’s Magic Mirror declares that Snow White is “the fairest in the land” the princess takes refuge in the forest with seven courageous heroes: Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Doc, Grumpy and Dopey. But even their devotion cannot save her from the Queen’s evil spell.the spell that can only be battled by a Prince!

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is being painstakingly restored to be presented in the best possible quality. Presented in its original fullscreen aspect ratio, the DVD was created from a high-definition transfer with the first use of an all-new grain elimination process. The sound has been THX Certified and will be presented in it’s original mono as well as new Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks in English and French. The two-disc set is following in the footsteps of previous Disney sets including “A Bug’s Life” and “Fantasia” allowing a multi-level interactive experience. In addition to the film, disc one will contain an audio commentary with the man responsible for the franchise, Walt Disney and a documentary The Making Of Walt Disney’s Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, an all new recording of “Some Day My Prince Will Come.” performed by Barbra Streisand, a sing-along of the “Heigh-Ho” which can alternately be played as karaoke, the animated short Silly Symphony The Goddess of Spring and the set top game “Dopey’s Wild Mine Ride”.

Disc two will delve further into the creation of the film with rare behind the scenes information divided into five film based areas: Snow White’s Wishing Well will trace the development of the story from the original fairy tale to the motion picture and will include a Walt Disney biographical timeline, a Snow White production timeline and the original Brothers Grimm version of the tale . This section will also trace the early stages of the film’s development with an introduction to storyboards and storyboard to film comparisons for five key sequences.The Queen’s Castle is the Art and Design section which will contain a visual development gallery and layout and background galleries. A section devoted to camerawork will include camera and filter tests and an excerpt on camerawork from “The Story of the Silly Symphony.”

The Queen’s Dungeon will feature three abandoned concepts and Information on the arduous restoration process. The Dwarf’s Mine will feature deleted scenes from the film as well as the original opening and end credits, plus a featurette on Disney through the decades.The Dwarf’s Cottage will revisit the publicity for the film including clips from the film’s original Los Angeles Premiere, spotlights on merchandise, the restoration and theatrical trailers. Still galleries for poster designs and a publicity scrapbook. Vintage black and white shorts “A trip through Walt Disney Studios” and “How Disney cartoons are made”.

If the daunting list of special features sounds daunting, don’t worry – the DVD will be hosted by Roy Disney with the help of the Magic Mirror. The fully loaded disc is still on schedule for an October 9th release date. The disc will be available for $29.99 and will be the first disc in Disney’s long promised “Platinum Collection”.
