Lara Croft: Tomb Raider makes its digital debut

Paramount took the lead this summer with the first entry into the summer blockbuster wars with the action-packed adventure film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. After its successful run at the box office, Paramount Home Entertainment is preparing a new special edition DVD for an October release.

Popular star of the long-running “Tomb Raider” video game series Laura Croft comes to the silver screen in the form of Angelina Jolie. The adventure-seeking archeologist must face off a secret illuminati organization conveniently named The Illuminati. Lara must beat them in a literal race against time as they search for an ancient talisman that can control the very fabric of time. The key, and the clock it fits must be found quickly however, since the device only operates once every five thousand years during the planetary alignment. The Illuminati want to tap into the key’s power to control the world, but Lara wants only to destroy it to keep the planet safe.

“Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” will contain a new 25-minute “Digging into Tomb Raider” bonus featurette, and a behind-the-scenes special on the film and star Angelina Jolie’s three months of training for the role. Also included on the DVD is commentary by director Simon West, four deleted scenes, an alternate main title sequence, the music video for U2’s Elevation — Tomb Raider Mix, and footage from each incarnation of Eidos’ bestselling videogame as well as interviews with game developers.

No alignment of the planets will be necessary to pick up “Tomb Raider” on DVD. The special edition will surface on October 23rd with a price to be announced.
