Wim Wenders signs on with Anchor Bay
Anchor Bay Entertainment has scored a major coup by signing an exclusive DVD distribution agreement with director Wim Wenders
. Although Anchor Bay currently has several limited distribution deals with several noted directors including John Landis, John Woo, Paul Verhoeven and Werner Herzog, the deal with Wenders is somewhat unprecedented.
Several films have already entered the process for eventual DVD release including Chambre 666, The Scarlet Letter (1971), The American Friend, The Goalkeeper’s Fear of the Penalty, Lightning Over Water, The State of Things and Tokyo-Ga.. Negotiations are also under way to bring more recent Wenders titles to disc including Paris, Texas, The Buena Vista Social Club, The Million Dollar Hotel, and the 1987 film Wings of Desire which served as the inspiration for the recent hit “City of Angels”.
It is far too early to get detailed information on any of the discs, but Anchor Bay promises that each disc will contain a behind-the-scenes documentary and audio commentary, among other extras. Wenders himself has agrees to oversee the film transfers to assure their quality.
