More info on Walt Disney’s Snow White

Already announced for an October release, Buena Vista has gotten a little more specific on the special features for their first Platinum Series title Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Disney is actually touting the release as a “historic milestone in entertainment history” with is bonus features, behind-the-scenes programs, production features, and other supplements.

In a faraway land a young princess lives, whose blossoming beauty disturbs her stepmother, the Queen. Each day the Queen asks her mysterious magic mirror to tell her “who is the fairest of them all.” When the mirror replies with Snow White’s name, the evil Queen sets out to slay Snow White, but the young girl flees into the forest. There, she meets the Seven Dwarfs, who hide her as best they can. When the Queen tricks Snow White into eating a poison apple all seems lost, until a handsome Prince arrives to awaken Snow White and to live with her “happily ever after.”

The first, and most exciting feature is an audio commentary from archival audio of Walt Disney himself. Also included is a Barbra Streisand rendition of “Someday My Prince Will Come” set to scenes from the film and a trivia adventure game playable on a regular set-top DVD player. Buena Vista once again stressed the “immersive” experience of the DVD, saying “we want to create the breakthrough experience of sitting in a theater in 1937.” The film has been given an extensive digital restoration in advance of the DVD release, enhancing its clarity, color and sound.

In an effort to create a more user-friendly navigation system for the discs extras, the menu screens will be hosted by the Magic Mirror from “Snow White”. Roy Disney also makes an appearance to introduce the film as he did for the recent DVD release of “Fantasia”. The disc is still scheduled for an October 9 release date.
