Finally we have received the complete details about MGM Home Entertainment’s long awaited Special Edition of the Rob Reiner comedy The Princess Bride, which is slated for release in September!

At the loss of her true love, Buttercup becomes engaged to a prince, who unknowingly has a plan to start a war created by her murder. As the plan begins with her kidnapping, the Dread Pirate Roberts comes to her rescue. With the help of a washed-up swordsman and a giant, Roberts in the name of love outwits the forces of evil to save a princess and a kingdom.

This new DVD release will – finally – feature a 16×9 enhanced widescreen transfer of the movie in its original 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The DVD will also contain a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio track, as well as a Spanish mono track. A new audio commentary with director Rob Reiner will also grace this release, as well as a second commentary track by author William Goldman. A brand-new documentary called “As You Wish,” featuring all-new interviews with Cary Elwes, Robin Wright Penn, Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin and others is also part of this package, together with exclusive footage shot by Cary Elwes during the production of the movie. Two additional featurettes and other material, such as trailers will also be found on this great release.

MGM Home Entertainment will release this new Special Edition of “The Princess Bride” on September 4 at a suggested retail price of $29.98, while the previously released standard version of the film will remain available for $19.98.
