Kramer Vs. Kramer makes its way to DVD

When Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep were brought together to create the 1979 drama Kramer vs. Kramer, the resulting film garnered nine Academy Award nominations and four wins including Best Actor and Best Picture of the Year. Twenty-two years later, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has unveiled plans to release the film on DVD.

“Kramer vs. Kramer” is a story of contemporary relationships, values and choices. Returning home late from work one night, a career-obsessed Ted Kramer (Hoffman) is told by his wife, Joanna (Streep), that she is leaving him. After a lifetime of being “somebody’s wife,” she’s going off to find herself, leaving Ted to care for their six-year-old son. Ted, while trying to hold down his job, gets to really know his son as few fathers do: cooking his meals, taking him to the park, understanding every need and fear. For the first time in his life he feels like a fulfilled parent. But then Joanna returns – and she wants her son back.

The DVD will be presented in anamorphic widescreen and will contain its original mono soundtrack. Included on the disc will be an exclusive documentary: “Finding the Truth: The Making of Kramer vs. Kramer”, theatrical trailers and filmographies.

For DVD collector’s interested in the Best Picture Oscar winners, the announcement of “Kramer vs. Kramer”, added to recent announcements for “Gandhi”, “Forrest Gump”, and “The Godfather. ”Kramer vs. Kramer” will join the ranks on August 28th for $24.95.
