Universal Home Video brings The Grinch to DVD

After a tremendous $260 million run in the North American box office, Ron Howard’s retelling of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is being prepared by Universal Home Video for a holiday DVD release in what is gearing up to be one of the studio’s biggest marketing promotions ever.

Based on the classic Dr. Seuss book, the Grinch is a mean spirited creature who hates everything about neighboring Whoville, especially Christmas (Probably because his heart is two sizes two small). When he devises a plan to steal Christmas from the Whos, it goes off without a hitch. The Grinch manages to steal every last present. When he discovers the Whos still find joy on Christmas morning without presents or trees, however, The Grinch discovers the true meaning of the holiday. Although this live-action version of “The Grinch” varies and adds slightly to the original book in order to fill time and lend itself to Jim Carrey’s antics. The film is still a visual feast.

Although no details on features are available yet, its likely that “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be a Collector’s Edition or possibly one of Universal’s new “Ultimate Edition”. Either way, it will probably be full of the high quality supplements we’ve come to expect from Universal Home Video. You can be sure that as soon as more information is available, we’ll post it here.

“The Grinch” will be available from Universal on November 20th of this year, just in time to make a good Christmas present. The disc will retail for $24.95
