Dogma Special Edition is finally back on track!

When Columbia TriStar Home Video released Kevin Smith’s controversial comedy Dogma last May as a bare bones disc, the announcement was made that a souped up Special Edition was on its way. After almost a year of legal wrangling, a new release date has finally been set for June 26th.

“Dogma” follows two banished angels who find a loophole that would get them back into heaven. The only snag? They’ll be destroying existence in the process. In an effort to stop them, the overworked voice of God taps cynical mortal Bethany to save the world by preventing the angels from reaching their unholy destination, New Jersey. Throw in the quick-witted, yet little-known thirteenth apostle Rufus a sexy, former muse with a case of writer’s block, and Jay and Silent Bob as two unlikely prophets, and you’ve got an hysterical and thrilling race against time.

In addition to Columbia’s usual anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround sound, the two-disc set comes with about as much supplemental material as anyone could possibly hope for. The specs have not changed since they were originally posted here back in November, here’s a quick recap. First up are two audio commentaries. The first featuring director Kevin Smith, and actors Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Producer Scott Mosier and Vincent Pereira. The second being a technical commentary with Kevin Smith, Producer Scott Mosier and View Askew Historian Vincent Pereira. Also included are a complete et of storyboards from three major scenes, 100 minutes of deleted scenes with View Askew crew intros, a weblink to the Official View Askew Site, outtakes, Saints and Sinners talent files, and probably the two most interestingly titled features on any disc; Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash Spot and Follow the Buddy Christ.

Priced at $29.95, the latest chapter in the Jersey Trilogy, will finally make its Special Edition debut on June 26th, barring of course the spontaneous destruction of the universe.
