Columbia TriStar presents The Garden of the Finzi Continis

Columbia TriStar Home Video has just announced the release of Vittorio De Sica’s classic 1971 Italian film The Garden of the Finzi Continis.

Amid the ravages of WWII, the Finzi-Continis, a cultured Jewish family, languish in aristocratic splendor on their Eden-like estate in Ferrara, Italy. As the political atmosphere becomes increasingly hostile to its Jewish citizens, the handsome and carefree Finzi-Contini children turn their well-appointed home into a refuge for their young friends. In an atmosphere of emotional instability, they play out a series of heartbreaking romantic rituals which spiral into tragedy as Fascism gradually descends upon their world.

Although fairly light on features, the new disc will contain filmographies and bonus trailers. The DVD will boast a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and digitally mastered audio.

Available June 19th, “The Garden of the Finzi Continis” will have a suggested retail price of $29.95
