Columbia TriStar announces The Last Dragon

This July, Columbia TriStar Home Video will be releasing the action-packed, if somewhat hokey martial arts film, The Last Dragon.

Originally released in 1985 as “Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon”, the film begins as a young man named Leroy searches for the “master” to help him reach the final level of martial arts mastery known as “the glow.” Along the way he must fight a throng of thugs (including a young Chazz Palminteri) led by an evil martial arts expert and rescue a beautiful singer from an obsessed music promoter.

The DVD will contain a new anamorphic widescreen video transfer, as well as a fullscreen transfer, and will contain Digitally Mastered Dolby Surround 2.0 and Mono soundtracks. The disc will also feature an audio commentary by director Michael Schultz, filmographies for the director, and the film’s two stars, Taimak and Vanity, and a small collection of bonus trailers.

OK, “The Last Dragon” may not be “Citizen Kane”, but any film that features characters named Sho’nuff and stars a man known only as Taimak can’t be all bad, especially for $19.99. You’ll be able to judge for yourself on July 3rd.
