Best in Show gets the Blue Ribbon from Warner

Warner Home Video has just announced the upcoming arrival of Best in Show, the satirical comedy with a plot and cast so bizarre it could only have come from the mind of Chritopher Guest.

The tension is palpable, the excitement is mounting and the heady scent of competition is in the air as hundreds of eager contestants from across America come together for the Mayflower Dog Show, under the watchful eyes of the show’s presenters, commentators, and unblinking television cameras. Among the eccentric owners of the canine contestants are fly-fishing shop owner Harlan Pepper, with his bloodhound, Hubert; yuppie lawyers Meg and Hamilton Swan with their neurotic Weimaraner, Beatrice; mild-mannered menswear salesman Gerry Fleck and his vivacious wife, Cookie with their Norwich Terrier, Winky, and many more. May the best dog win!

Although the DVD is not as feature filled as some, the features promise to be fairly entertaining. Starting off with a feature-length commentary with Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy and several cast members. Also included are 17 deleted scenes with optional director commentary. If the commentary and deleted scenes are similar to Guest’s work on the recent “This is Spinal Tap” DVD, they should more than make up for a lack of additional features. The disc will contain an anamorphic widescreen transfer as well as a fullscreen transfer, and have a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound-mix.

Coming May 15, “Best in Show” will carry a suggested price of $24.95.
