Universal Home Video takes Billy Elliot to the streets in April

We have just received details about Universal Home Video’s plans to release the critically acclaimed Billy Elliot on DVD. The humorous and inspirational film that recently received two Golden Globe nominations debuts on DVD on April 17, 2001.

The life of 11-year-old Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell) changes dramatically when one day he stumbles upon a ballet class during his weekly boxing lesson. A coal miner’s son, Billy finds himself demonstrating the kind of raw talent seldom seen by the class’ exacting instructor, Mrs. Wilkinson (Julie Walters).

The DVD features an anamorphic widescreen transfer of the movie and comes with 5.1 channel Dolby Digital audio tracks in English and French. The disc also contains a Featurette called “Billy Elliot: Breaking Free,” which offers a look behind the scenes of the film. The theatrical trailer, production notes and cast and filmmaker biographies are also part of this release.

“Billy Elliot” will be available on April 17 and carry a suggested retail price of $24.98.
