Total Movie Magazine closes shop

Many of you may have been familiar with the Total Movie Magazine published by Imagine Media. The high quality magazine did not only cover theatrical releases but also had a very strong focus on the world of DVD and came with a cover-mounted free DVD every month.

Well, sadly it was too good to be true, it seems, as Imagine Media just announced that “Total Movie” together with 19 other Imagine Media publications have been closed down. Declining advertising revenues are obviously the reason for the decision, as it has become practically impossible for these magazines to turn a profit.

Although the staff had been finished preparing a new issue of “Total Movie” from what we hear it will not make it to market.

Addition: We have just been informed by Gary Whitta, the editor in chief of “Total Movie” that the latest issue, April 2001, will indeed find its way to news stands, fully intact with the cover-mounted DVD. While it doesn’t make up for the loss itself, at least it’s a nice farewell sign.
