Disney schedules The Emperor’s New Groove for release in May

Like with a number of other titles recently, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release two different DVD versions of Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove – a standard DVD containing mostly the film only, and a 2-disc Collector’s Edition which also features a wide variety of bonus materials. The DVD, featuring the voices of the likes of David Spade, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt and Wendie Malick, is scheduled for release on May 1.

In “The Emperor’s New Groove”, discovering the good in everyone has never been this much fun! Faster than you can say “boom, baby,“” arrogant Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) is turned into a llama by his devious advisor, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), and her hunky henchman, Kronk (Patrick Warburton), who want to rid the kingdom of this beast of burden. Now the ruler who once had it all must form an unlikely alliance with a pleasant peasant named Pacha (John Goodman). Together, Kuzco and Pacha must overcome their differences as they embark on a hilarious, “groovy” adventure that will have audiences howling with laughter.

The THX-certified “standard” DVD will contain Sting’s “Making The Music” Video, Rascal Flatt’s Music Video “Walk The Llama Llama” and an entertaining game. The film will be presented in a 16×9 enhanced widescreen transfer and features a 5.1 channel Dolby Digital, as well as a DTS 5.1 audio track. A commentary track by director Mark Dindal and producer Randy Fulmer and other cast & crew members is also part of the release. A deleted scene and 3 different Behind-the-scenes Featurettes, as well as some DVD-ROM game demos will also be found on the disc.

The 2-disc Collector’s Edition will, of course contain all of the above, and so much more, like dual viewing options, that allow you to watch each feature animation department individually as you go, as well as documentary called “How A Disney Animated Film is Made,” which takes you to the inner sanctum of the Disney animation studios. This full-length documentary covers all aspects of animated film making, such as the entire development process, the storyboarding, the creation of layouts and backgrounds, the animation process itself, the inking, the music and sound, the voice recording and how the publicity material is compiled. The movie’s trailers will also be found on this release.

“The Emperor’s New Groove” will come to DVD on May 1. The price for the standard edition will be $29.99 while the 2-disc Collector’s Edition will retail for $39.99.
