We’ve received word that Columbia Tristar Home Video is readying the Special Edition DVD release of one of this summer’s surprise box office hits, Charlie’s Angels (2000).

Directed by acclaimed music video director McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol), the film was based on the very popular TV show from the 1970s. The film stars Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore (who was also one of the film’s producers), Bill Murray, John Forsythe (what would a movie based on a TV show be without a cameo from one of the show’s original stars, eh?), Tim Curry, and Crispin Glover.

We’ve been given very little about the release, but we do know that the disc will contain an anamorphic widescreen transfer (were you expecting any less?), at least a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and, most likely, a commentary track. Our guess is that there will be many more extras, considering that the director is said to be heavily involved with production of the DVD.

The disc is scheduled for release on March 27, with a suggested retail price of $27.95.
