Apparently not thrilled with the film the way it was released, director John Frankenheimer and Buena Vista Home Video are preparing another DVD release for Reindeer Games, this time in a Director’s Cut.

For those unfamiliar with the film: upon release from a stint in prison, Rudy (Ben Affleck) impulsively decides to pose as his old cell mate Nick in order to make time with Nick’s beautiful pen pal, Ashley (Charlize Theron). But Rudy’s ruse blows up when he realizes that Ashley was double-crossing Nick…and now he’s inescapably part of an armed robbery plot being hatched by her dangerously evil brother (Gary Sinise).

Directed by John Frankenheimer, the rest of the cast includes Ron Sauvé, James Frain, Dana Stubblefield, Mark Acheson, Tom Heaton, Isaac Hayes, Michael Sunczyk, Douglas Arthurs, and Dean Wray.

Like the previous release, this disc features an anamorphic widescreen transfer, but the new release features footage not seen anywhere before. Audio is a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack. Also included is a new audio commentary from the director, a ‘making of’ featurette, and a trailer.

‘Reindeer Games: Director’s Cut’ will be available on March 27th. The suggested retail price is $29.99.
