Another ‘flipper’ replaced: Columbia to re-issue “Das Boot”

Prepare to sweat it out again in the depths, but this time without getting up to turn the disc: Columbia TriStar Home Video is preparing to re-release director Wolfgang Petersen’s submarine epic Das Boot. This disc will replace the old ‘flipper’ version that had the film spread out on both sides of the DVD.

The new release appears to be identical to the last one in other respects. This is the ‘Director’s cut’ of the film, which included an extra 60 (!!!) minutes of footage to the theatrical version.

The disc comes with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, letterboxed at the film’s original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 in both English and the original German language. Subtitles are available in Spanish, English, and French. Extras include an audio commentary by the director, and a ‘making of’ featurette.

‘Das Boot’ will be available on February 27th. The suggested retail price remains $27.95.
