All hail the Queen: ‘Cleopatra’ is coming

Fox Home Entertainment has announced the latest release in the studio’s Five-Star DVD Collection, and, in keeping with the film’s history, they’re putting together a huge package. Coming this April is the 3-Disc boxed set of 1963’s Cleopatra.

This massive Hollywood production starred then husband and wife Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The turbulence surrounding this movie before, during, and after production is legendary. It’s also notable in that Taylor was the first woman to receive a Hollywood paycheck of One Million Dollars (I can never say those words now without affecting a Dr. Evil voice in my head).

The set includes a new anamorphic widescreen transfer. Audio specs and the full list of extras have not yet been announced, but the bonuses we do know of so far are impressive to begin: an audio commentary (though by whom has yet to be announced) a new documentary ‘Cleopatra: The Film That Changed Hollywood,’ an original featurette ‘The Fourth Star Of Cleopatra,’ rare footage of the Hollywood premieres, trailers, a historical timeline and a collectible booklet.

This huge ‘Cleopatra’ set will be released on April 3rd. The suggested retail price is $34.95. Fox promises 7 hours of extras, so stay tuned…we’ll give you the full details as they arrive…
