Things get crowded when ‘The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover’ comes to DVD

Anchor Bay Entertainment is cooking up a feast for edgy movie lovers with their upcoming DVD of The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (1989).

The wife of an borish restaurant owner and crimelord grows tiresome of her husband and considers an affair with a gentle bookselling patron. Food, colour coding, sex, murder, torture and cannibalism are the exotic fare in this beautifully filmed but brutally uncompromising modern fable.

‘The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover’ has been called everything from savage political satire to daring pornography, but most critics agree on one thing: this movie is nothing less than a cinematic feast for the senses.

Directed by Peter Greenaway, the film stars Helen Mirren, Alan Howard, Richard Bohringer, Michael Gambon, and Tim Roth.

The disc will come with an anamorphic widescreen transfer in the film’s original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, with a Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack. Extras include the film’s theatrical trailer and a 5 x 7 inch theatrical poster replica.

‘The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover’…all of them…will be available on February 27th. The suggested retail price will be $29.98.
