The specifics on the new release of ‘In The Line Of Fire’

The re-release train continues to roll—which we heartily approve of, given the changes in technology and attitude toward DVD. And as we reported last week, Columbia TriStar Home Video is preparing a new Special Edition DVD of In The Line Of Fire, and we have the details for you.

For those who don’t know the story: Clint Eastwood stars as Frank Horrigan, a veteran Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to protect John F. Kennedy from assassination. Thirty years later, he gets a chance to redeem himself when a brilliant psychopath threatens to kill the current president—and take Horrigan with him. Taunting him by phone and tantalizing him with clues, the assassin (John Malkovich, in an Oscar nominated role) lures Horrigan into an electrifying battle of wits and will that only one man can survive.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Clint Eastwood, Rene Russo, John Malkovich, and Dylan McDermott, the film was nominated for 3 Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing and Best Writing.

This new Special Edition will feature a new anamorphic transfer of the movie, letterboxed at 2.35:1. Audio will include both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby 2-Channel Surround soundtracks. Optional French, Spanish and Portuguese language tracks are included, along with subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Thai. The bonus features include an audio commentary by Wolfgang Petersen, deleted scenes, an exclusive documentary: ‘The Ultimate Sacrifice’, the Showtime special: ‘Behind the Scenes with the Secret Service’, 2 featurettes: ‘How’d They Do That’, and ‘Catching the Counterfeiters’, TV spots, talent files for Petersen, Eastwood, Russo and Malkovich, and production notes.

‘In The Line Of Fire: Special Edition’ is scheduled for release on February 27th. The suggested retail price will be $29.95.
