Another epic comes to DVD: MGM brings us ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’

It seems to be the week for grand movie epics. We’ve received word that MGM is preparing The Greatest Story Ever Told for release on DVD this coming March.

A movie that attempts to tell no less than the story of Jesus Christ, it was directed by George Stevens and sports quite an impressive cast that includes Max von Sydow, Carroll Baker, Victor Buono, Richard Conte, José Ferrer, Charlton Heston, Angela Lansbury, Van Heflin, Martin Landau, and David McCallum, to name a few.

MGM has spent some considerable time and money on a restoration and newly mixed sound. The disc will contain an anamorphic widescreen transfer, letterboxed at 2.75:1. Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in both English and French, with subtitles available in English, French and Spanish. Extras include two documentaries, a deleted scene, a collectible booklet, a still gallery of publicity shots and advertising materials, and the original theatrical trailer.

‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ is scheduled for release on March 6th. It will carry a suggested retail price of $26.95.
