A true story of beauty & beast: ‘Buddy’ comes to DVD

Fans of gorilla-adoption films (and who isn’t, really?) will be pleased to hear that Columbia Tristar Home Video is preparing the DVD release of Buddy courtesy of Jim Henson Pictures.

Rene Russo stars as eccentric socialite Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Lintz, who adopts a baby gorilla into her already-bustling animal menagerie. Along with chimpanzees Maggie and Joe, Buddy gets into all kinds of hilarious monkey business and proceeds to drive everyone bananas. A delightful family adventure based on a remarkable true story (!!!) featuring amazing effects courtesy of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

Directed by Caroline Thompson, the film stars Rene Russo, Robbie Coltraine, Alan Cumming, and Paul Reubens.

Columbia will present both widescreen and full screen transfers on this disc, as well as both a Dolby Digital 5.0 and 2-channel Surround soundtracks. Spanish and Portuguese language soundtracks are also included, along with subtitles in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Thai. Extras include a ‘making-of’ featurette, talent files, and several trailers.

‘Buddy’ will be released on February 6th, with a suggested retail price of $29.95.
