Columbia to re-release ‘Dogma’ as a Special Edition

All Kevin Smith fans take note: Columbia TriStar Home Video is preparing a new edition of the writer/director’s funny, controversial comedy, Dogma, and they’re adding a ton of features.

In this comic fantasy, two banished angels (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) find a loophole that would get them back into Heaven. The only snag? They’ll be destroying existence in the process. In an effort to stop them, the overworked Voice of God (Alan Rickman) taps cynical mortal Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) to save the world by preventing the angels from reaching their unholy destination: New Jersey! Throw in two unlikely prophets named Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith), the quick-witted yet little-known thirteenth apostle (Chris Rock) and a sexy former muse with a case of writer’s block (Salma Hayek), and you’ve got an hysterical and thrilling race against time packed with an all-star cast that Entertainment Weekly called ‘One of the 10 best movies of 1999!’

Written and directed by Kevin Smith, the all-star cast includes, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Jason Lee and Jason Mewes.

Dogma (Special Edition ) is a new two-disc set with many added features. First is an anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film, with both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby ProLogic Surround tracks. All well and good, but this thing is chock-full of extras: a cast and crew audio commentary by director Kevin Smith, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, producer Scott Mosier and Vincent Pereira, technical commentary by Smith, Mosier, and View Askew historian Vincent Pereira, the documentary, ‘Judge Not: In Defense of Dogma’, a complete set of storyboards from three major scenes, 100 Minutes (!!!) of deleted scenes with View Askew crew intros, hilarious cast and crew outtakes, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash Spot (???), saints and sinners talent files, a weblink to the official View Askew Site, and something called Follow the Buddy Christ.

This crammed double-disc set is scheduled for release on January 23rd, with a suggested retail price of $29.95. Enjoy!
