Another classic horror reissue: “Horror Hotel”

As we noted with the “Bay of Blood” DVD, horror fans have had to suffer with a dubious transfer in the previous release of another cult horror classic. Hopefully, the folks at Troma will do better by a personal favorite with their upcoming DVD release of Horror Hotel (1960).

A young college student studying “Old Salem” witchcraft travels to the quiet New England town where, centuries earlier, a witch was burned at the stake. She finds that things are not as quiet as they appear, and soon she is the target of the coven that still exists there, searching for a sacrifice to offer to the devil on Candlemass Eve. British title: “The City Of The Dead”.

Horror Hotel is one of those films that many of us watched dozens of times on late night television, unnerving us every time we saw it! This is classic independent filmmaking where atmosphere is everything, and so much was done with a small budget. Add to that Christopher Lee, and what more could you ask for?

Directed by John Llewellyn, the movie stars Christopher Lee, Patricia Jessel, Dennis Lotis, Tom Naylor, and Betta St. John.

There are no specifics on the transfer and soundtrack, unfortunately, but we’ll keep you posted the moment we get the details. We’re hoping for good things…

Horror Hotel will be released on November 21st, with a suggested retail price of $19.99.

“Wait for the hour of thirteen…!”
