Artisan opens The Doors again with a Special Edition

The Oliver Stone DVD renaissance continues with the re-release of The Doors, this time in a Special Edition.

‘The Doors’ is Stone’s love song to Jim Morrison, songwriter, poet and rock icon. This is his story, a meteoric rise from the obscurity of film school and life on the rooftops of Venice to the pinnacle of the Rock music world and a tragic early death in a Paris bathtub.

The film boasts a fun cast with Meg Ryan, Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Wincott, Kathleen Quinlan, VMimi Rogers, Crispin Glover, Frank Whaley, Jennifer Rubin, Michael Madsen, Kevin Dillon, and Billy Idol. But it’s Val Kilmer as Morrison who owns the movie. His performance is so dead on it’s eerie…

This new, 2-disc Special Edition features a widescreen transfer, letterboxed at the film’s original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

Extras are numerous (they’d better be with 2 discs…): audio commentary by Oliver Stone, 43 minutes of deleted footage, ‘making of’ featurette, The Road of Excess documentary, behind-the-scenes footage, original concert footage, cast/crew biographies, production info, interviews with many of the cast, and a trailer & teaser.

Artisan will release the disc on December 2nd. It will carry a suggested retail price of $34.98.
