Anchor Bay reveals some details on upcoming favorites

Our friends at Anchor Bay Entertainment…those purveyors of things esoteric and cult…have disclosed some new information regarding some of the extra features in some of their upcoming titles, so we thought we’d pass it along to whet your appetite.

The Wicker Man will feature a 50 minute featurette containing interviews with Christopher Lee, Edward Woodward, and other members of the cast and crew. They promise still more extras that will be announced later.

Manhunter will be released in time for Valentine’s Day in February 2001. There will be a Limited Edition DVD (similar to Supergirl) that will feature the highly-coveted Red Dragon version of the film. After a long search, this version was provided to Anchor Bay by none other than the film’s esteemed director Michael Mann. For those who might not know, Red Dragon (on which Manhunter is based) is the Thomas Harris novel that preceded Silence of The Lambs, and was the first to feature an appearance by Hannibal Lector. It’s a frightening book in its own right and the prospect of seeing the full cut of this movie is very exciting…

–The Special Edition of Heathers will feature new interviews and commentary tracks. Winona Ryder will be featured in an interview.

Lust in The Dust will feature a new Paul Bartel tribute featurette, featuring many famous directors, stars, and collaborators of the late Bartel.

–Nattevagten (Nightwatch) will feature an audio commentary by director Ole Bornedal.

–Candy, one of the most notorious of all cult-films, will be released in February, just in time for Valentine’s Day. There will be a Limited Edition tin of this film as well.

–Cut & Run will be the unrated edition of the film, with the softer R-Rated violent sequences presented as a supplement. Director Ruggero Deodato has tentatively agreed to a commentary track.

–Re-Animator, Suspiria, Wicker Man, & That Girl will also be produced as Limited Edition Tins, limited to 20,000 units. What’s wrong with this picture? I just couldn’t resist listing “That Girl” with such venerable horror classics…

Anchor Bay continues to surprise and delight; we’ll keep you updated on their plans as soon as we get any more information.
