On a number of occasions we had informed our readers that Anchor Bay Entertainment is currently working on a re-release of the Clive Barker horror moviesHellraiser and Hellraiser 2: Hellbound. Together with details for a number of other upcoming titles, we have just been able to obtain information on the release of “Hellraiser.”

Scheduled for September 19, this new disc will contain a brand-new THX-certified transfer of the movie that is enhanced for 16×9 TV sets. The transfer has been supervised by Clive Barker himself, who was quite actively involved in the development of this Special Edition release. Alternatively the disc will also contain a full screen version of the movie. The movie’s audio has also been remastered and will be presented in a new 5.1 Dolby Digital mix on this DVD. Further, a series of supplements that have been personally compiled by Clive Barker will be part of the release. First there is a running length audio commentary featuring Clive Barker and the film’s star Ashley Laurence, moderated by writer Pete Atkins. And then there is a new featurette, called “Resurrection” that has been created by Barker specifically for this DVD, together with a still gallery and the movie’s theatrical trailer.

On the same day, Anchor Bay will release “Hellraiser” and “Hellbound” in special limited tin edition, but we currently do not have details about the exact contents of that release. As soon as we learn more, we will of course let you know.
