Fox celebrates The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and new details on some other titles

Earlier we were able to bring you the details about 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s plans to release Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands on DVD on September 5, and today we got some more information in. Loosely announced before on their own website, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is preparing a 25th Anniversary Special Edition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show that will be released in time for Halloween, on October 3 as a 2-disc box set. Apart from a brand-new remastered transfer of the movie in anamorphic widescreen, the disc will contain three separate audio tracks. The first is a newly remixed 5.1 Dolby Digital track that is complemented by the original mono track. The third track is an audience participation track, just as on the Laserdisc. Outtakes and a series of deleted scenes will also be on the DVD, as well as a series of interviews. A “Making Of” Documentary and new DVD-ROM games can also be found on that exciting release. The title will be released in a 2-disc Amaray case.

And while we’re on the subject of cases, many have wondered what the packaging for the Planet Of The Apes series will look like. Will the box set contain six separate Amaray cases or will it be one of those new folding cases that Fox introduced with “The X-Files?” Search no more. We have confirmation that the box set will contain separate Amaray cases for each one of the titles.

Many of you were also wondering which audio format The Sound Of Music will be presented in, and I am proud to let everyone know that the upcoming DVD release of the film will feature a 4.1 Dolby Digital mix.

And while we’re on the subject of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, here’s a bit of exciting news. The studio will release the entire first season of The Simpson’s on DVD in a box set. Does that sound great, or what?
