For MGM Home Entertainment Halloween comes early with a list of August releases

MGM Home Entertainment has just unveiled its title line-up for the month of August. Scheduled for release on August 1, MGM Home Entertainment has prepared a series of horror titles to celebrate this year’s Halloween – although a little early. The line-up features new titles, as well as the re-pricing of already released films.

All fans of the Phantasm series will be pleased to hear that the latest installment in the series, Phantasm IV: Oblivion is coming to DVD featuring a 16×9 enhanced widescreen transfer as well as a fullframe presentation with a 5.1 Dolby Digital audio track. But also Stan Winston’s Pumpkinhead is coming to DVD on August 1 in a fullscreen presentation with a Dolby Surround audio track. Wes Craven’s The Swamp Thing comes featuring a non-anamorphic widescreen transfer and a fullframe presentation with a mono audio track, and Dennis Hopper will take on Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, also presented in a non-anamorphic widescreen transfer and a fullframe presentation with a Dolby Surround audio track.

All these discs will feature the movies’ trailers and carry a suggested retail price of $19.98.

MGM Home Entertainment is also re-releasing Misery – as it was previously released by Polygram – and reduces the price of the Phantasm Special Edition from $34.98 to $19.98. At the same time, MGM is re-pricing “Carrie,” “Child’s Play,” “The Dark Half,” “Disturbing Behavior,” “Leviathan,” “Monkey Shines,” “The Rage: Carrie 2,” “Species,” and “Species II” to $19.98.

On August 15, MGM Home Entertainment will then release a second slate of titles on DVD, including the re-release of Fargo in an anamorphic transfer and Kalifornia with the same features as the previous Polygram releases. Platoon will also be released on August 15 featuring a 16×9 transfer and a fullscreen presentation, as well as the movie’s theatrical trailer, but according to MGM’s information the release will not contain the commentary track that was part of Polygram’s previous release of the movie. The final release on the list is the comedy Six Degrees Of Separation which will come in a non-anamorphic and a fullscreen presentation with a 5.1 Dolby Digital audio track and a trailer. All discs carry a suggested retail price of $19.98.
