VCI Home Video unveils a series of new titles to be released in May

After some time of silence, some new release information from VCI Home Video just came in that we would like to share with you. All titles are slated for release on May 30 at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

The first on the list is Twilight People, Eddie Romero’s 1972 horror film starring Pam Grier, John Ashley and Pat Woodell. Matt Farrell is plucked from the sea while skin-diving and taken to the foreboding fortress of Dr. Gordon. He is to become part of the doctor’s diabolical experiment to create a race of super people. This twisted and maniacal doctor’s experiments have so far only created terrifying and hideous creatures. His human guinea pigs, freed by the doctor’s own daughter, turn the island hideaway into a bloodbath of revenge and terror!

The DVD will contain the film’s original theatrical trailer and other horror previews.

The next film on the list is Beyond Atlantis, another Eddie Romero film starring John Ashley, Patrick Wayne and George Nader. Three male fortune hunters are on an expedition south of the Philippines to find pearls, accompanied by a pretty female archaeologist. They discover a remote island populated by an unknown civilization, who appear to be the descendents of the Lost City of Atlantis. These strange people, who have pearlized eyes and are able to stay underwater for great lengths of time, perform all of their important rituals, including lovemaking, on the seabed. The fortune hunters soon become the hunted when the descendents of Atlantis unleash ancient sex rituals. It seems the islanders must mate with outsiders to ensure their future generations. When the daughter of the island’s leader is unwittingly killed, the young braves of the tribe try to slaughter the expedition.

Then there is Naked Kiss, written and directed by Sam Fuller. Kelly, a prostitute who tires of her city syndicate and seeks to forget her past, arrives in the small town of Grantville and obtains a job at the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital as a nurses’ aid. At once, in the small town, she is caught up in a romantic whirl, first with a police chief who wants her for what she used to be, and then with his best friend, the town’s millionaire, who, even though aware of her former life, begs her to marry him. She accepts, but things go awry as Kelly discovers a shocking murder scene. Arrested by the police chief, she is quickly convicted in the minds of most townspeople and must suffer their judgement based on her past.

The DVD will contain a photo gallery and preview trailers as well as a classic TV episode from “The Star & The Story” series titled “Dark Stranger” starring Edmond O’Brien and Joann Woodward.

Sundown is the next movie on the list, an Academy Award-nominated Adventure by Henry Hathaway. Gene Tierney plays a beautiful native girl who assists British troops in Africa during WWII. A grand adventure,
gorgeously photographed, and adapted from Barre Lyndon’s book.

The DVD will contain a photo gallery and preview trailers and a classic TV episode W. Somerset Maugham’s “String of Beads” starring Angela Lansbury and Ronald Coleman.
