Columbia TriStar Home Video is preparing its first DTS enabled DVD titles

For a little while now, rumors have been floating around that Columbia TriStar Home Video is planning to begin releasing titles with DTS audio tracks later this year. Yesterday, during a meeting with Columbia TriStar we had the chance to confirm these rumors. The studio is currently preparing two titles with DTS audio tracks for release, and more are expected to follow shortly afterwards.

While one of these releases is still completely shrouded in secrecy, we have been able to find out that the first Columbia TriStar Home Video DVD to contain a DTS audio track will be Men In Black.

Since the release is a special edition with a lot of supplements, the DTS track would not fit on the same disc as the Dolby Digital track and Columbia TriStar decided to make a separate release for the DTS version of the movie. Whether it will be released in time with the Dolby Digital version and whether it will be limited in features due to the increased storage requirements of the DTS audio stream, we were not yet able to find out, but we will keep you informed as soon as more information comes in.
