Pacific Microsonics introduces new HDCD chip for CD and DVD

Pacific Microsonics introduced the PMD-200, its next generation HDCD chip, today. The PMD-200 is a feature rich audio IC that provides HDCD processing for both the CD and DVD formats. For the PMD-200 implementation, Pacific Microsonics chose Motorola’s high performance DSP56364 platform.

The PMD-200 accepts up to 24-bit input data and operates at sampling rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz. In addition to featuring HDCD decoding and precision filtering for the over 4,000 HDCD encoded CDs available today, the PMD-200 adds HDCD precision conjugate filtering for DVD-video and DVD-audio. These multi-format HDCD capabilities make the PMD-200 ideal for consumer electronics products such as DVD players and A/V receivers that must be capable of playing audio from DVD-video discs, HDCD CDs, conventional CDs and HDCD DVD-audio discs.
