20 Years after Platoon

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment celebrates the 20th anniversarry of Platoon with a new commemorative 20th anniversarry edition of the film arriving later this year.

Chris Taylor is a young, naive American who, upon his arrival to Vietnam, quickly discovers that he must do battle not only with the Viet Cong, but also with the gnawing fear, physical exhaustion and intense anger growing within him. While his two commanding officers draw a fine line between the war they wage against the enemy and the one they fight with each other, the conflict, chaos and hatred permeate Taylor, suffocating his realities and numbing his feelings to man’s highest value – life.

The third incarnation of Platoon on DVD contains some new features, but thankfully includes the features of the existing DVD including one of the most comprehensive documentaries about the making of a film Tour of the Inferno. Other features include deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary, new interviews with Stone and veterans, the documentaries Creating the ‘Nam, One War, Many Stories, Raw Wounds: The Legacy of Platoon and Snapshot in Time: 1967-1968, the featurette Preparing for ‘Nam, audio commentaries by Stone and Captain Dale Dye, photo & art galleries, an eight page booklet and trailers. The film is presented in anamorphic widescreen in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound.

The disc won’t arrive until May 30th, closer to the 20th anniverarry of the films release and Stone’s upcoming World Trade Center. The disc will be priced at $24.96.
