Universal Pictures has just started publishing its real box office numbers on a dedicated website. The site launched today and every Monday, Universal Pictures will post its actual box office figures every Monday. The figures released late Sunday are only estimates that can differ quite significantly from the actual grosses that run in the trades on Tuesday. Over time, Universal plans to expand the site to include archival listings of past Universal releases and other relevant studio information.

It is very interesting to see how many Hollywood studios are intensifying their use of the Internet for business related matters. Considering that until a year ago some studio executives did not even have e-mail addresses, the step is coming somewhat belated… but better late than never.
