Detroit Rock City DVD will ship three weeks ahead of VHS

For the first time in the industry, a VHS release is literally degraded by a DVD its DVD counterpart. New Line Home Video has decided to release the DVD version of their music comedy Detroit Rock City three weeks earlier than the video tape.

Presented as a feature-loaded Platinum Series special edition, the DVD will be released on December 21, while the VHS will have to wait until January. The move gives New Line the chance to help boost the DVD format for the Holiday Season.

The disc will aslo once again be on the bleeding edge of the DVD format, featuring a mutli-angle presentation of the film’s final concert scene, the performing of KISS’ “Detroit Rock City”. It will allow viewers to switch between various cameras to get a look at alterante views that were not used in the theatrical version of the film and was reportedly suggested by the band itself.
