Quick to follow yesterday’s announcement by Matsushita to reveal a DVD REcorder this week, Samsung today announced their plans to exhibit a DVD Recorder during a Consumer Electronics Show in Korea later this week.
Based on a DVD-RAM system, which has a different format than DVD-ROM and cannot be played back in standard DVD players, C-Cube Microsystems and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will allow live realtime recording using the DVD Forum’s DVD Specification for Video Recording (DVD-VR). The specification defines features such as still picture, video slide show, recording and simple editing features. C-Cube provides both the MPEG-2 video encoding and the formatting
information needed for DVD-VR compatibility.
