Disney gets a refresher course in its Home Video Unit

Due to the disappointing results in their domestic home video division, Buena Vista yesterday announced a shift in gears in their Home Video Department. Richard Cook will take the place of Michael Johnson as head of Buena Vista Home Entertainment and oversee all domestic and international video distribution and marketing.

The move is reportedly part of Disney’s ongoing plans to reconstruct its home video business to boost sales and cut costs. The reorganization aims to cut costs by as much as $30 million and would result in job losses, according to a report Saturday by the Los Angeles Times, citing Disney executives. The
Wall Street Journal also said Friday Disney was considering significant job cuts.

Let’s see if these changes also include adding classic animation titles and 16×9 enhanced DVD transfers to the roster. I am sure it could help boost their sales quite a bit…
