Béla Lugosi’s Dracula to haunt DVD in a Collector’s Edition

More news on Universal’s plans to release their Monster Classics on DVD have just surfaced. On August 31, Universal Home Video is releasing the 1931 classic Dracula starring Béla Lugosi and Helen Chandler on VHS in its restored version with the new soundtrack by Philip Glass. We had been reporting about Glass’ efforts to entirely rescore this classic movie, and finally the results can soon be witnessed. The announcement for the film’s VHS release also contains a tidbit about an impending DVD Collector’s Edition release of the film later this year. Since the film is scheduled as a special edition, chances are that Universal will actually release both, the original score and the new score by Philip Glass on the same disc. We will keep you posted.
