LucasFilm and Fox will not use Star Wars trailer to leverage own films

LucasFilm denied Tuesday on the official Star Wars website that the upcoming new trailer for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace will be used to give 20th Century Fox’s Wing Commander leverage at the box office, which also opens this weekend, just as the new trailer hits theaters nationwide. The company indicated that the trailer may not even be used to open Chris Roberts“ “Wing Commander” at all. Everyone who wants to see the trailer should contact their local theater for playing times.

Keep your eyes open if you’re really keen on the trailer, though. In last night’s installment of “Entertainment Tonight” an outlook on the trailer had been given. Both “Entertainment Tonight” and “Access Hollywood” will air the new trailer tonight as part of their programming. It will also be screened tonight at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, today’s Hollywood Reporter reported that George Lucas has no plans to do test screenings of the film but has shown a nearly completed rough cut to friends, including Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy.
