Philips and Blockbuster hook up for DVD rental

Philips Electronic and Viacom’s Blockbuster introduce a new program to boos interest and exposure for the DVD platform. The program will allow Blockbuster customers to rent DVD players and disks at some 500 outlets. While prices are not completely fixed yet, the players are expected to rent for about $15. Each of the Blockbuster stores supporting the program promised to carry an average of 350 movies on DVD to help making the package more attractive. To help promote the program, Philips has even designed special kiosks with a DVD player and display that will stand in Blockbuster stores and demonstrate the technology to people unfamiliar with the technology. The player rental program is supposed to go into full gear during the christmas season.
