Matsushita announce first car DVD player

Japanese electronics manufacturer Matsushita today announced it will market the world’s first digital DVD based car navigation
system that is also capable of playing DVD movies and CD audio discs.

The DVD car navigation-entertainment system will be released to the Japanese market on November 1 through Matsushita’s
subsidiary Matsushita Communications and will sell for 260, 000 yen (appr. $2000 ) without monitor. The entire system, including a
7” plasma display will retail for about $2670. The DVD player will offer the capability to play DVD Video discs and also contain
voice control functions, Internet connectivity, CD-ROM and audio CD compatibility. The car navigation system will utilize 3D maps
to pinpoint navigation locations. Currently no plans are disclosed about an overseas launch of the product.
