Baaba Maal is coming to DVD

Palm Pictures brings Senegalese pop superstar Baaba Maal’s phenomenal liveshow to your living room via the DVD release of “Baaba Maal Live At Festival Hall” (anticipated release date January 6th). This DVD is one of the first live concerts filmed, recorded and mixed specifically for DVD.
Palm Pictures, Chris Blackwell’s entertainment company, is committed to the future of movies and music on the DVD format. Digitally recorded July 13th at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Baaba Maal’s concert features his exceptional band Daande Lenol (Voice Of The People),joined by special guests Jamaican guitar virtuoso Ernest Ranglin, and Sinead O’Connor’s backing vocalists The Screaming Orphans. “Live At Festival Hall” showcases music from Baaba Maal’s Palm Pictures CD Nomad Soul, an album which is currently holding the #1 position on CMJ’s“World Music Chart” and has continued to hold that spot for three consecutive weeks. The London media raved of the event…Guardian journalist Robin Denselow described the evening…“This wasn’t just a great African event, it was one of the shows of the year.” The Times’ writer Nigel Williamson stated “At the Festival Hall, the Senegalese singer proved once again that no one fuses the tribal rhythms of Africa and contemporary rock grooves with more style and commercial power.”
The concert was shot by 6 digital cameras and its sound recorded by Manor Mobile using Sony 48 track digital equipment. The audio tracks were mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound by Jerry Boys at Hear No Evil Studiosin Fulham, London using the Euphonix cs2000 desk.
