Anchor Bay make horror move

Today Anchor Bay announced a whole slate of new releases for August and September, placing Anchor Bay in the seat of being the most serious horror publisher on DVD to date. The list contains a letterboxed version of George Romero’s Day Of The Dead, Halloween 4, Succubus, an uncensored letterboxed version of Amando de Ossorio’s Tombs Of The Blind Dead and Return Of The Evil Dead, as well as an uncut letterboxed version of Mask Of The Devil, containing material not before seen in the US. The list also mentions an interesting double-feature disc, containing widescreen versions of The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires and The 7 Brothers Of Dracula. Please check our release schedule for the complete list. Unfortunately Anchor Bay are also raising their prices for DVD however with these titles from $24.99 to $29.99. This raise also affects some of the already announced titles that will be released in the August/September timeframe, such as Zombie, Dracula: Rince Of Darkness, Evil Dead 2, Quatermass And The Pit, Q: The Winged Serpent and Satanic Rites Of Dracula. This is a rather bold move, in a time when other publishers are rumored to actually lower their prices and Anchor Bay’s reputation is still somewhat shaky from their bad-looking early DVD releases.
