A Bug’s Life gets special treatment from Disney Home Video

Word of mouth has had it for a while already that Disney Home Video is preparing a special edition of their computer animated smash hit A Bug’s Life from Pixar. Now the company has officially released the details and specifiactions for the release, which are quite interesting and surprising.

The 2-disc Deluxe Edition will contain the film’s fullscreen version as well as a 16×9 enhanced widescreen version, together with an audio commentary featuring director John Lasseter, co-director/co-writer Andrew Stanton and the film’s editor Lee Unkrich on the first disc. This disc will also feature an isolate music score in stereo, isolated sound effects in 5.1 Dolby Digital, and the Pixar short “Geri’s Game”.

On the second disc you will find more supplemental material, like introductions and explanations by the filmmakers, and an early presentation reel (“Fleabie”) of the film. Also on the disc will be the original story treatment and pitch boards and extensive character designs, concept art and color scripts, as well as deleted sequences. A storyboard-to-final film split-screen comparison will give you a good look at the creation of the film, just as a behind-the-scenes featurette on the creation of “A Bug’s Life”, and a behind-the-scenes look at the voice talent will. That’s not all, though. The disc will also feature early production tests, a production progression demonstration, an explanation of sound engineer Gary Rydstrom on the movie’s sound design, domestic and international trailers and posters, and a behind-the-scenes look at how the movie was recomposed from its original Widescreen presentation to a Full Frame presentation for Home Video release.

This special edition release from Disney Home Video will come at a $49.95 retail price on November 23.
