Klaatu, Barada, Nikto. December will see The Day the Earth Stood Still

Fox is preparing a vert special edition of The Day the Earth Stood Still. No doubt this is to capitalize on the upcoming remake of the film, but who cares. A great DVD is a great DVD.

The film will be presented with the existing audio commentary with David Wise and Nicolas Meyer and a new commentary with film historians. Another audio track with an isolated score is also included. The featurettes The Making of The Day the Earth Stood Still, Decoding “Klaatu, Barada, Nikto”: Science Fiction as Metaphor, A Brief History of Flying Saucers, The Astounding Harry Bates, Edmund North: The Man Who Made the Earth Stand Still, The Mysterious, Melodious Theremin, Race to Oblivion and Farewell to the Master are included along with a live performance of the film’s main title, a pressbox Fox Movietonews 1951, a trailer, still galleries and the shooting script. The Blu-ray goes even further with an interactive thermin feature and a game.

Wow. Arriving on December 2nd, the DVD will be priced at $19.98 and the Blu-ray at $34.99.
