The upcoming DVD special edition of the Spielberg drama The Color Purple will not be a special director’s cut as previously announced, but the theatrical version.

That’s no reason to stay away from this version which will still carry all of the special features previously announced including the documentaries Conversations with Ancestors: The Color Purple from Book to Screen, A Collaboration of Spirits: Casting and Acting The Color Purple, Cultivating a Classic: The Making of the Color Purple and The Color Purple: The Musical as well as trailers and photo galleries. The film will be in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1.

The two disc set will be available on February 18th with a suggested retail price of $27.95.
