Miramax preps With a Friend Like Harry

A crowd favorite at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, the French thriller With a Friend Like Harry had a brief theatrical run in the States. For those of you who missed it, Miramax and Buena Vista Home Entertainment will be bringing the film to DVD in September.

Michel and Claire are facing a miserable vacation. Driving through a heat wave in their beat up car and their three screaming daughters in the back make the trip to their farmhouse all the more challenging. In addition, Michel’s overbearing parents will be joining them. At a road-stop they run into Harry, a slightly off-kilter but wealthy man who claims to have known Michel in high school. Influenced by Harry’s perseverance and a ride in his air-conditioned Mercedes, Michel and Claire find themselves inviting Harry along on their vacation. But, soon Harry’s motives become suspect as one strange episode after another begins to change Michel’s life.

The new DVD of “With a Friend Like Harry” will come with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, but sadly that’s the extent of the disc’s features. Coming on September 11th, “Harry” will carry a suggested retail price of $32.99 – a pretty high price for a featureless disc, but an articulate, suspenseful film worth checking out.
