With two feature laden versions of “Spinal Tap” and the recent release of “Best in Show”, the notable hole in any Christopher Guest library is the 1996 comedy Waiting for Guffman. Fortunatly, Warner Brothers Home Video has decided to release the film later this summer on DVD.

The town of Blaine, Missouri is preparing for celebrations of its 150th anniversary. Corky St.Clair, a small time director is putting together an amateur theater show entitled “Red, White, and Blaine” about the town’s history, starring a mixed bag ensemble including a local dentist, a couple of travel agents, a Dairy Queen waitress, and a car repairman. Certain of a success, St. Clair invites the elusive Broadway theater critic Mr. Guffman to see the opening night of the show. Anticipation of the arrival of the enigmatic Guffman has the whole production excited. But no one knows if he’ll actually show.

Features on the DVD will likely be announced in the next few days, but it is known that the DVD will arrive on August 21st and will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98.
