TV comedian Jamie Foxx gained wide notice in 2004 as Tom Cruise's sidekick in the excellent "Collateral". Then he got the Academy Award for "Ray". Now it's time to dredge-up a lot of old Foxx material and cash in. Image Entertainment's no-frills UMD , "Jamie Foxx: I Might Need Security", is a 2002 HBO comedy show perfromed live at the old Paramount Theater in Oakland, California. The outer case of the UMD warns of "coarse language," which translates into Foxx strutting onto the stage blasting the word "f*ck" in every other sentence. Now this is cerebral stuff!

Foxx strokes himself and jokes about Hollywood, cocaine, marijuana, scud missiles, and George Bush. He impersonates Bill Clinton, Shaq, P. Diddy, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson, Al Pacino, Mike Tyson, and Jennifer Lopez. Some of it's pretty funny. Foxx is not afraid to jive and mimic other black people. And his technique is sheepish, not arrogant. Foxx jumps around the stage to provide some movement, even when his monologue doesn't.

3 Cameras record from above, in the audience, and on stage. The show was shot on video-tape, and the visuals are fine. This brand new UMD appears in it's original 1.33:1. This is the aspect ratio for television and 16mm. 1.33:1 is based on a screen measuring 4 units across by 3 units down. It is presented in color, with flat, non-directed audio. It is un-rated. There are no chapter stops. Special features consist of a Foxx concert encore, where he returns to the stage and sits at a piano to sing two songs. The lyrics include: "I want to go downtown. Let me kiss you on your lips, between your hips.." and so forth. Then people come up from the stage and sing to Foxx (as he grimmaces to the camera and chides their abilities). One singer is called "Reverend Leather Jacket".

With no-control access, the UMD then stumbles into 2 or 3 out-takes, where Foxx drops his watch, and knocks over a stool. All-in-all, this is a clumsy, low-budget transfer. Foxx will appear as Tubbs in "Miami Vice" in 2006. The Sony PSP allows you to fast-forward the UMD with a lever on the top-right of the device. Sometimes, you don't know how lucky you are.
