Rating:

Like the previous releases of ’Buffy The Vampire Slayer, ’ the season 5 box set is a slick package with some great content. Featuring all 22 episodes of the series’ fifth season, the DVD set gives you the chance to witness Buffy being confronted with events such as an encounter Dracula, her mother’s strange sickness and the appearance of a seemingly undefeatable demon. Plenty to keep fans happy.

The DVD set contains all episodes in their original fullframe presentation. The image is very clean and free of any defects. A very good level of detail ensures that all the production values of the series are perfectly reproduced on your screen and there are many instances where you won’t believe how rich the production looked, as most of it was lost during the shoddy broadcasts of the series. Blacks are deep and solid, giving the image the visual depth it needs and the transfer is free of compression artifacts.

The Dolby surround tracks provided on the DVDs are in English, French and Spanish. They are all equally balanced and have a good frequency response that allows for a faithful reproduction of the audio track. Basses are solid – though unexaggerated – and the high ends are clean and clear, free of distortion or sibilance.

The DVD set also contains a number of extras, such as selected commentary on some of the episodes, as well as a full episode overview for this the fifth season. But also scripts for selected episodes are included as well as a selection of outtakes. The bonus highlight are, once again, the featurettes provided on the releases. Seven of them can be found this time, covering various aspects of the production, the cast, the story arch and other aspects, giving viewers a better look at the series and its development. The DVD set is rounded out by a ’Buffy Demon Guide’ and a great Still Gallery.

As in previous releases, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has turned the fifth season of ’Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ into a great package that fans should devour. A great feature presentation and exciting extras make this a no-brainer release for all who enjoy the show.
